It is now time to Beautify the Bluegrass!

This is the initiative KAEC mentioned several months ago, partnering Kentucky’s electric cooperatives and the governor’s office. Now it is time to act.

Beautify the Bluegrass is a great way to demonstrate your co-op’s commitment to community, improve Kentucky and show the state how co-ops work to improve Kentuckians’ quality of life.

The process is simple:

  • Find an area in your service territory that could use some TLC. For example, it could be picking up litter on a stretch of roadway, planting and mulching at a park or monument, or painting an older building or wall.
    • If you have already completed a similar project in 2018, you can submit it!
  • After deciding, take several “before” pictures/video of the project area.
  • Assemble your employees and/or members to help. It’s up to you if this is a half day project or over a longer period of time (Great teambuilding opportunity). Make sure to take photos and video during the process and use the hashtag #BeautifyKY when posting on social media.
  • When the project is complete, upload your photos and video, along with a brief description at kentuckyliving.com/beautify.(link is external)

In March, Shelby Energy got the ball rolling, removing old bushes and trees from outside the Shelby County Courthouse Annex. They planted flowers and gave it a fresh bed of mulch.

Last year (before co-ops got involved), this contest had 20 total entries. Our goal, as lead sponsor, is to blow that number out of the water. And with 100% co-op participation, along with civic organizations across the state, we can far surpass our goal.

Deadline to complete the project and upload your results is July 27.   More details and a full project checklist can be found at kentuckyliving.com/beautify.

Beautify the Bluegrass is a tremendous opportunity to sow goodwill (and good PR) while doing what co-ops do best, improving the quality of life in the areas we serve.
